RTPI Survey Finds 61% of Planners Uncertain About Meeting November Biodiversity Net Gain Deadline

According to a RTPI survey:

  • 61% of public sector planners cannot confirm they'll have dedicated BNG resources in place by November.

  • 79% of public sector planners believe that BNG practice would be improved with the confirmation of additional ‘skills and staff’.

  • 78% of public sector planners believe that BNG practice would be enhanced with additional ‘guidance, advice, and support’.

  • 54% of planners across the public and private sectors believe that BNG practice would benefit from providing ‘case studies of best practice’.

As the November deadline for Biodiversity Net Gain implementation looms large, the findings of this recent Royal Town Planning Institute survey shed light on the challenges that planners, particularly in the public sector, are facing in adapting to these new regulations. With a significant number of planners uncertain about meeting the deadline and a clear need for additional resources and support, the role of organisations like Biofarm becomes increasingly crucial to ensuring the successful integration of BNG practices into planning and development processes.

The Urgent Need for Expert Assistance

The RTPI survey has brought to the fore the urgent need for expert assistance in the field of Biodiversity Net Gain. The statistics reveal that a substantial proportion of public sector planners lack the dedicated resources, skills, and guidance required to effectively implement BNG. This underscores the complexity and evolving nature of BNG regulations, and the challenges faced by planners of staying compliant.
